Sgt. Kerry Schmidt with the Ontario Provincial Police was left flabbergasted by a 19-year-old driver and his 19-year-old passenger detected driving 308km at 10pm on Saturday night. The vehicle was automatically impounded for 7 days and the driver’s license suspended for 7 days.
The driver was travelling west-bound on the QEW in Burlington. The driver was safety stopped by an OPP officer and charged with dangerous driving, street racing and stunt driving. If convicted, the driver faces up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
So far in May, the OPP have already taken 150 vehicles off the road in the GTA area because of street racing or stunt driving (15 vehciles a day).
